New Day Church Celebrated With Pastor Phil
New Day members hosted a surprise celebration for Pastor Phil on Sunday, May 5, 2019 to honor the 50-year anniversary of his ordination into the ministry. The worship service at 10:30 a.m. included the celebration. He led the worship service, his favorite hymns were sung, special music was arranged and the Golden Jubilee was recognized.
Mark Kahny, Piano and James Sawyer, Trumpet
Mark and James are experts in the field of jazz. They played “When the Saints Go Marching In” and other hymns, but the highlight was a selection of music from the hits of Chicago just for Pastor Phil.
Pastor Phil and Nancy Reahm, Church Board President
Nancy recapped events of 1969, the year Pastor was ordained. She presented him with a plaque commemorating his 50 years of ministry.
Mary Dykstra Novess and Don Novess each made a presentation. Mary presented Phil with a box of congratulatory notes and well wishes from our sister church in Kenya, the local community, and from people who have worked with Pastor Phil in various ways. Don dressed Phil with a stole to symbolize his years in ministry.
Dr. Rev. Tim Knauff concluded the Golden Jubilee Recognition with a special prayer just for Pastor Phil.
In spite of the excitement and high emotions, Pastor Phil was able to conduct the worship service in his traditional style.
