New Day Church-on-the-Hill will host jazz pianist/vocalist Mark Kahny for a free “Sunday Afternoon Jazz” concert on Sunday, October 7, at 3:00 p.m. Members of the community are welcome to attend and enjoy an afternoon of relaxing music. Kahny is a well-known local jazz musician who has performed over 30 years throughout West Michigan and across the country. Classically trained at the University of Cincinnati Conservatory of Music, Mr. Kahny focused his studies on piano performance, organ and art history before broadening his expertise with a concentration in jazz studies. His skills at improvisation are highly touted and his services as a performer and accompanist are in high demand in the area. He can be seen in West Michigan performing weekends at Marro’s in Saugatuck, at several downtown Grand Rapids locations with various bands, on the Grand Lady Riverboat, or performing at wedding ceremonies and playing f0r private parties. In Southern California where Mark now spends his winters, he performs at several old “Rat Pack” hangouts like the iconic Purple Room Supper Club, and at casinos, as well as at various country clubs. New Day Church-on-the-Hill is located in Cascade atop the hill at the corner of Cascade Road and Thorncrest.

Karen Price is leading a Bible study at the church that will extend until August 20 on Monday evenings at 6:00. Light supper is furnished. It is a unique concept. Warning, there will be homework, but it is worth it. Come see what it’s all about.
Karen’s project, “Color the World With Happines”‘ for the kids in our feeding program has far exceeded the goal of 1500 items. We ended up with 4,104! In addition, there were people who donated money to help support the feeding program. That total was $516. The project was shared with folks outside our church, and we were blessed by their generosity as well as that of our own people. Karen is preparing to put the items in suitcases so a person going to Nairobi can take the items to the children. Our thanks to all who contributed.
Karen Price wanted to help the children in the Kibera Slums so she initiated a project to give the children coloring supplies. On one of Pastor Phil’s visits to the slums, he gave out pencils. The children were so excited to have them that Karen got the idea of sending coloring supplies. She has met her goal of gathering the supplies, and they will be delivered this summer.
We will again be blessed with the talented jazz artist Mark Kahny beginning May 27. He will be part of the Sunday worship services. Come and enjoy.
All women are invited to participate. The fun begins at 6:30 p.m.
Join us for our Lenten and Easter services: March 25 (Palm Sunday), March 29 (Maundy Thursday) and April 1 (Easter Sunday). We welcome everyone to worship with us.
